OnePlus Open: This Changes Everything
I must confess that I’m a geek of some sort and foldable phones? They appeared as a cure without disease. Cool, yeah, but did they beat a common smartphone? The OnePlus Open has made me reexamine that idea.
The “Oh Wow” Moment
It’s not that the folding effect itself is spectacular, as we saw. It was the revelation of the Open that hit me. That large-sized, almost tablet-sized display is indeed beautiful. And the crease, which is normally the first thing you witness ever on such papers, is just a faint hint now. It not only gave me the idea but also the confidence of “Oh yeah! I can even watch a complete movie without feeling unduly irritated.”
The tiny details that cause impacts.
It is quite apparent that OnePlus has put some brainstorming into making the Open phone look less delicately crafted and more like a phone that can be used every day. It is surprisingly light for its size, and the newly finished hinge helps with its stability. This got me to the point of subconsciously folding and unfolding it while briefly waiting for my coffee order in line – interestingly relaxing!

Two Screens, Done Right
That is what makes the Open stand out from the outside screen. It is not just a tiny panel you can peek information from, it’s large enough to let you type messages comfortably, check your calendar, or even take a decent selfie using the main cameras. It is not like I will be unwrapping it for every little thing I get which should help in preserving battery life.

OnePlus Open Productivity…Or Just Better Netflix?
Next is the inner gigantic wide display that one can comfortably stare at. Guilty as charged, the first thing that came to my mind was to pull up a YouTube video that I could play with over and over. Ironically, multitasking has many positive aspects besides only having a few negatives. I have the email open in the panel on the right and notes on the opposite – it’s one of the things that would take forever on a regular phone but feels almost effortless on the Open.
OnePlus Open, Please, keep the price well
Here’s the thing: for a lot of people, foldables are a nut-busting investment. It is no longer possible for the makers of the Open to be lukewarm about its pricing. They should not make it a luxury item. Their call has been to provide “flagship features for less,” this mantra needs to be adhered to in this case, too.
The Foldable Future?
I left the OnePlus presentation with much more enthusiasm around foldables than I thought possible. This aspect is exceptional. For instance, they’ve got the screen well evaluated—the touch and the functionality are great and they seem to have put a lot of thought into how folks use their phones.
It might just be this one that finally accomplishes the feat of making such devices widespread. It is too soon to tell if this is the case, but at this point, the OnePlus Open is without doubt the best proof that exists.
